Inside Marine One: Four U.S. Presidents, One Proud Marine, and the World’s Most Amazing Helicopter by Col. Ray L’Heureux (Author), Lee Kelley (Author). Inside Marine One provides the reader with an insight into what it takes to operate the most recognizable helicopter in the world. While Col. L’Heureux was involved in flying four presidents, I really enjoyed his tales of riding with President George H.W. Bush as a member of Pelaton One!
I recently finished Inside Camp David: The Private World of the Presidential Retreat by Michael Giorgione. I found it to be an interesting and insightful book about the history of the camp and the presidents and their families that used the camp as an escape from the pressures of Presidential life. The author, Michael Giorgione served a stint as the camp’s commanding officer, and together with his family, called the camp home.
I just finished Travis Howes’ book Create Your Own Light, Finding Post Traumatic Purpose. I couldn’t put the book down! Travis grew up in South Carolina and was in the Marine Corps, a Police Officer and a Firefighter. His stories flow easily and are told from the point of view of a Veteran, First Responder and stand-up comic. Travis relays his life, the good and the not so good and openly writes about his struggles with PTSD. Travis also has an excellent podcast also titled Create Your Own Light. If you are struggling with a traumatic event, the book is excellent! If you are not struggling, the book is excellent!

The Filthy Thirteen: From the Dustbowl to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest—The True Story of the 101st Airborne’s Most Legendary Squad of Combat Paratroopers by Richard Killblane (Author), Jake McNiece (Author) was an entertaining and interesting read. Jake McNiece (the leader of the Filthy Thirteen), is a wonderful story teller. The movie, “The Dirty Dozen” is very loosely based on the Filthy Thirteen but Jake makes it clear that none of his group were criminals, just screwups and incredible combat troopers!
