It is my Third Birthday! I recently celebrated the anniversary of the day of my birth a bit ago. Today I celebrate my second chance at life! Three years ago at about 07:00, I began what was to be almost a 10 hour operation to transplant my liver. I will be eternally greatful to my donor and my donor’s family for giving me the chance at a new life. I will also be eternally greatful to all of the staff at Duke University Hosiptal for their skill, experience, compassion and gental treatment. I am also eternally greatful for the support and care from my wonderful wife, Loni. The entire process was much harder on her than it was on me. I just took a 10 hour nap and woke up and did whatever the hospital staff told me to do! I will also be eternally greatful to my friend, Amy. Amy kept my business up and running for 3 months with about 40 minutes of “training”. She did an amazing job! I am also eternally grateful to the members of Roanoke County Fire and Rescue and the members of IAFF Local 3194 who helped with all the chores and grass mowing leading up to and after my transplant. True Brotherhood! I will also be eternally greatful for all the thoughts and prayers. The power of prayer is real as are the blessings of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Leadership is possible in all different ways, and in all different areas of life. Whether it is with friends or family, I expect them to set a great example for me, and hopefully I will do the same for them. And that is all part of being a leader. – Steve Nash
