- Starting on June 23, 2018, the Carr Fire in California burned for months and killed 8 people, including 3 firefighters and destroyed over 1,600 structures
- In 1944, a tornado outbreak in the Appalachian Mountains killed 163 and injured over 1000. At least 100 were killed in a single F4 tornado that struck in Harrison County, West Virginia
